Saint Sabbatius of Tver, mid-sixteenth century, Moscow, Andrei Rublev Museum.
In my finnish almanac I cannot find or this man is he Sabbas Dec. 5 † 532, or Sabbatios Sept. 19 † 267. Or is he somebody not in our almanac? And why doesn´t he have gloria? Maybe he is actually Sabas, Abbot of Tver † 1467 with a memory day: March 2! This is not a man in the Finnish almanac.
There is a writing on the icon:" The blessed monk Sabbatius prays to the vision of the venerable and live-giving Cross of the Lord that appeared to him at the mountain named Orshina, (site of) the Monastery of the Holy Cross that is called now after his name Desert of Sabbatius."
